Paula Batzer, MBA
A+ Accounting was founded in 2011 and has been helping businesses and individuals since then. Paula Batzer, founder and CEO of A+ Accounting, is a Native American business owner who has over twenty years’ experience in all areas of accounting. Over fourteen of those years have been working extensively as a corporate controller. She also has several years’ experience working as a paralegal handling a wide variety of different areas of law.
In addition to her extensive accounting and legal background, she has a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, a post-baccalaureate degree in forensic accounting and a master’s degree in accounting, all of which Paula obtained while working full-time and raising a family.
With her very diverse background, she has been able to combine her education and work experience to help businesses more than a typical accountant. Her experience as a corporate controller has taught her to look at all business financials and overall operations, as if they were a large corporation and make recommendations accordingly. She has extensive knowledge in month-end, quarterly and year-end processes and has the ability to provide an in-depth analysis.
Her extensive knowledge in both law and forensic accounting allows her to provide support in other areas such as internal controls/fraud prevention and human resources. Paula is also able to look at areas of your business to see where you may be losing money and recommend corrective measures. She has extensive knowledge in State and IRS regulations to assist in making sure your business remains compliant.
Brandon Batzer – Accounting Specialist
Brandon Batzer brings over 10 years of upper-level accounting experience to the A+ Accounting team. After earning his associate’s degree from Northwestern Michigan College, he joined the family business and has since supported clients through a wide range of accounting services designed to keep financial systems accurate, compliant, and up to date.
Brandon has extensive experience maintaining and reviewing accounting records, supporting system organization, and assisting with higher-level accounting processes. His work includes supporting reconciliations, financial reviews, and operational accounting functions, with a strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and client needs.
At A+ Accounting, Brandon applies his attention to detail and analytical skills to help clients improve financial clarity and maintain reliable accounting processes.
Dezyrae Batzer – Administrative & Accounting Systems Support Specialist
Dezyrae Batzer provides accounting systems and administrative support to the A+ Accounting team, bringing over 10 years of experience supporting accounting workflows, document organization, and operational systems. She holds an Associate Degree in Visual Communication Arts from Northwestern Michigan College and a Bachelor of Arts in Games and Interactive Media from Michigan State University, with minors in Comic Art and Graphic Novels, Korean Language, and Graphic Design.
At A+ Accounting, Dezyrae supports QuickBooks cleanup projects, document management, and accounting system organization by helping structure files, standardize workflows, and improve clarity across financial processes. Her depth of experience in accounting support roles, combined with her technical and design-focused education, allows her to approach accounting systems with a process-driven mindset—considering usability, project flow, and long-term efficiency.
Dezyrae’s background in design and interactive media enhances her ability to assist with systems implementation, internal process documentation, and visual organization of financial data. She brings a thoughtful, methodical approach to building efficient workflows that support both internal operations and client accounting systems with accuracy and consistency.
Jess Carlson – Accounting Specialist
Jess Carlson is an Accounting Specialist with over four years of experience supporting small and mid-sized businesses with day-to-day accounting operations. Her background includes payroll processing, bank and account reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and maintaining accurate, well-organized financial records.
Prior to working in accounting, Jess spent seven years as a life coach supporting individuals with mental and physical disabilities, five years as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and two years as an office manager for a local cleaning business. These roles strengthened her skills in organization, documentation, compliance, time management, and client communication—qualities that translate directly into dependable accounting support.
At A+ Accounting, Jess focuses on keeping client books current, reliable, and audit-ready. She is known for her strong attention to detail, discretion, and clear communication, helping ensure payroll, reconciliations, and daily accounting functions are handled with professionalism and care.
Nikki Maxbauer-Mikowski – Senior Accounting Specialist
Nikki Maxbauer-Mikowski brings over 16 years of senior corporate accounting experience supporting small to mid-sized businesses through accurate, organized, and dependable accounting services. Her background includes hands-on work in accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and financial reporting, with strong proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and a variety of cloud-based systems.
In addition to core accounting functions, Nikki has extensive experience in management and process improvement, allowing her to identify inefficiencies and recommend practical workflow enhancements. She is known for her commitment to financial integrity, confidentiality, and a high standard of accuracy.
At A+ Accounting, Nikki serves as a Senior Accountant supporting both client financials and internal processes. She applies strong analytical skills in remote and collaborative environments, while also providing support in HR-related functions and maintaining a strong focus on professionalism, efficiency, and client service.
Emma Block – Administrative Specialist
Emma Block is an Administrative Specialist at A+ Accounting LLC, where she supports the firm’s accounting operations and client services through organized, detail-focused administrative assistance. She brings experience in accounts payable, bank reconciliations, data entry, and daily office operations, helping ensure accuracy and consistency across client accounts.
Emma earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Theatre and Entertainment Arts from Northern Michigan University. While her academic background may be creative in nature, it has strengthened her abilities in communication, adaptability, teamwork, and problem-solving—skills that translate directly into effective administrative and accounting support.
Through her work at A+ Accounting, Emma assists with maintaining accurate financial records, supporting accounting workflows, and contributing to smooth internal operations. She is known for her reliability, strong attention to detail, and service-oriented approach when working with both internal teams and clients.
Emma’s diverse background allows her to balance analytical tasks with clear communication and organizational efficiency. Her goal is to support the A+ Accounting team by helping ensure client financials are handled with care, professionalism, and consistency.
Letha Polk – Accounting & Administrative Specialist
Letha Polk brings extensive experience in administrative support, accounting functions, and operational quality assurance to the A+ Accounting team. With a strong background in customer service, accounts payable, data processing, and documentation management, she supports accurate financial workflows and organized client accounting systems.
Throughout her career, Letha has worked across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, public service, and sales operations. Her experience includes accounts payable processing, quote and purchase order management, database creation and maintenance, Salesforce data entry, and detailed record keeping. She has also supported quality and compliance processes, giving her a strong appreciation for accuracy, consistency, and internal controls.
Letha’s long-term roles in administrative and quality-focused positions have strengthened her ability to analyze data, improve processes, and maintain reliable documentation. She is highly skilled in tools such as Microsoft Office, SAP, Salesforce, and custom databases, and she consistently applies strong organizational and problem-solving skills to her work.
